Community leadership programme - Leicestershire Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner and Violence Reduction NetworkCase Study

Working closely with the Leicestershire Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner (OPCC) and the Violence Reduction Network (VRN), Jones Consulting designed and delivers a leadership program for Community Leaders.

The principal aim of the programme is to provide local community leaders with access to a high-quality course which enables them to develop their leadership style, knowledge and skills as they undergo their work to build stronger and safer communities. A second aim is to grow a network of local leaders who provide peer support and will work collaboratively with the OPCC and VRN.

The Community Leadership programme is part of the VRN’s public health approach to preventing and reducing serious violence.  In December 2022 the UK Government introduced the Serious Violence Duty – a statutory duty to ensure public services work together in partnership with and for their local communities to prevent and reduce serious violence.  https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/serious-violence-duty

By developing the expertise and leadership skills of local community leaders, who already hold positive relationships with people in their communities, our hope is that participants will have a bigger impact in their communities for years to come.

Testimonial from Grace Strong:

“The Community Leadership Programme has been one of the most important and successful VRN investments since the Network commenced in September 2019.  Community Leaders are the backbone of effective prevention and through investing in their learning and development we’ve been able to strengthen our collective work to prevent violence across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland
